Janet L. Houston
Biography
Jan has extensive experience in representing high-net-worth clients in the areas of taxation, estate planning and business planning. Her practice focuses primarily on tax and estate planning including multi-generational planning and incorporating charitable giving into estate plans. In addition, Jan assists business owners with succession planning and also handles income tax and estate tax audits.
She finds creative solutions for her clients by listening carefully and outlining a path to make their wishes a reality. This could include taking care of a special needs child; providing for a family member, friend or employee, or supporting a charity.
I actively collaborate with your partners, including trust officers, insurers, financial planners and brokers, to make sure that we are all on the same page.
Jan regularly helps her high-net-worth clients evaluate ideas and creates a path to achieve their desired results. She frequently is their “go-to” resource to unify and organize all of the information and documentation that might be needed for anything from completing a mortgage application, exercising stock options or planning for retirement distributions to more complex transactions.
She often has planning meetings with her clients’ advisory team members to discuss and coordinate opportunities. Jan also helps her clients’ advisers avoid pitfalls by shortening their learning curve and creating a smooth flow of communication between all parties.
By working directly with charitable organizations, development directors and financial planners, Jan educates them about charitable giving techniques and also helps major donors clearly understand all of the benefits of charitable giving. Additionally, she assists donors in financially supporting causes which they are passionate about by structuring substantial charitable gifts. She also serves as a trustee on multiple private foundations.
In addition to speaking to many groups and organizations about various tax and estate planning topics, Jan has provided in-house training on estate planning issues to bank employees, insurance agents and brokers.
If you are just starting to grow your net-worth as a millennial or young leader, you can benefit from Jan’s experience in wills, trusts, estate planning, individual income tax planning and compliance, as well as business taxation.
