Sarah is part of the 4th generation family owners and operators of Jake Sweeney Automotive, which has 10 dealerships representing 14 automotive brands in Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky. She has been in the automotive industry for 28+ years and is currently the e-Commerce & Marketing Manager. Jake Sweeney Automotive has been in business for over 100 years.

1. What does Women’s History Month mean to you and why is it important?

Women's History Month is important to me because it is a chance to reflect on the significant contributions women have made to society. The women in the past serve as the building blocks for our daughters in the future. Ladies like Marie Curie, Susan B. Anthony, Amelia Earhart, and Sally Ride are great examples of foundational figures.

2. How have you witnessed the roles of women change in society over the past decade(s) in your industry?

The roles of women in the automotive industry have changed greatly in the past decade. Automotive was traditionally a male dominated business, but you will now find women like Mary Barra as the head of major car manufacturers such as General Motors. The roles of women in car dealerships have changed drastically and have transitioned women from office roles to become service technicians, sales & finance managers, and more. Technology has been a big catalyst for this change as it redefines traditional job descriptions and stereotypes. Technology also attracts younger women who want to build a more efficient, customer centric dealership experience.

3. Tell me about an influential woman in your life and how they have impacted you.

The most influential woman in my life was my mother. She was tough as nails and had a way of befriending people who challenged her the most. She encouraged me to do things like drive a farm tractor or run a marathon. She always said never lose your sense of humor!

4. What is the best piece of professional advice you’ve ever received or like to give?

The best piece of advice I can give is spend time with people who disagree with you. You will learn the most from them.

5. Is there anything you do to help mentor or motivate other women or young girls?

Currently as part of the Greater Cincinnati Automobile Dealers Association, I am involved in a program called Professionally Pink which promotes Women in the automotive industry. The mission of Professionally Pink is to encourage and mentor women who currently work at local Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky dealerships. GCADA holds an annual event with a prominent female speaker that talks about how they navigate their career in the automotive industry. Ladies are given the chance to network with other women from supporting industries such as auto technology, banking, and marketing agencies.
