Strauss Troy Summer Intern Spotlight: Nathan Walker
For the past 16 years, Strauss Troy has participated in the Summer Work Experience in Law (SWEL) program. SWEL is an eight-week program that operates from approximately mid-June through early August. It helps African American students make an informed decision regarding entering law school and the legal profession. SWEL sets the stage for each scholar’s self-discovery by exposing them to the inherent opportunities and challenges of practicing law through summer work experiences, coaching, and networking.
This summer we welcome our intern, Nathan Walker. Read on to learn more about Nathan.

What drew you to the legal field?
As a child, I’ve always been interested in topics such as geography and history. From that interest grew a fascination with different governments throughout the world. As I got older, I became more interested in how the government, whether it be its action, style, structure, or expectations, directly affected the people beneath them. I’ve realized that the legal field is a close correlation between the two. I want to become a lawyer to advocate for others and understand the interplay between the government and its citizens’ daily lives.
What is your professional plan after high school?
This fall I will be attending Washington University in St. Louis. I plan to double major in Global Studies and Philosophy-Neuroscience-Psychology (PNP). After that, I may pursue some graduate programs pertaining to international affairs before attending law school.
What are you most excited about during your time with Strauss Troy?
Over the past three years at previous internships, I’ve had a large amount of experience in the criminal sector of the legal field. With Strauss Troy being my first internship at a law firm, I hope to use this opportunity to gain a better understanding and grasp on the civil side of things.
What is your favorite food?
This may be odd to some, but cornflakes!
